Great Sons of Dimasa

Editor's Speak:

Autobiography  or biography of a great people is the great source of inspirations and motivations to our new generations. It is the treasure of versatile  knowledge gained  and learned by the genius  throughout his life. Literature is the mirror of society . In the same sense the biography   of great philanthropic social worker, reformer, poet , politician and philosopher   is the historical documents of the society reflecting the contemporary socio-cultural , religious  political and economic conditions of the people He himself is  is the philosophy of his life with genuine idea and thought.  Therefore if we fail to remember them and we do not study their thought and philosophy  there will be  a large  lacuna between past and present which will  consequently hinder the  uplift of our society socially, politically , literally economically and even spiritually.   On the contrast  the  autobiography or biography  of the great Dimasa People are  hardly available. So let we compose, compile their biography authentically thus  establishing the recognization of their contribution to the society and disseminate their teaching and idealism  in order to make our society  peaceful , responsible  and progressive  With this humble and novel  attitude and idea  here in this coloum we will try to accommodate   biography of all the great sons of Dimasa and others in abridged . Hence all are hereby appeal to contribute in this column ( email:jyotibodo@gmail.com)

I was born on 24th spetenber, 1923, at Khailimdisa village about 5 km away from Maibang. My father name was Lt Jaso Bathari and mother’s was Lt Jaorimdi Hasnu( Bathari). My father expired while I was only three months old.
My maternal uncle Lt Dhanbang Hasnu sent me to Maibang in 1934 for studies. There was only one LP school at Maibang and One M E school at Haflong.
Sometimes in 1937 while I was reading at Maibang L P Scool Lokha priya  Gopinath Bordoli alongwith Bhimdor Dewri visited Silchar and Silhet by train via Maibang/Haflong. We , the student community received and garland him at Maibang Rly station. Late Joybhadra Hagjer started social reform in 1938 anf held a meeting at Maibang Durga bari in which , it was resolved to prohibit rearing of pigs and cocks/hens by the Dimasa vcommunity in N C Hills. We also took agreat initiative in the above programme and made propanda roaming from village to village.
I pass L.P School in 1939 but could not receive higher education due to  poverty. So I served as saleman in the shop of lt. Harendra Das of Maibang for a year.
Thereafter Lt. Debabrata Thousen had taken me to Langthing in 1943 and appointed me as a saleman in his shop. During my stay at Langthing I taught Lt Rapangju Teron, Sri Sarmon Teron and Sri Munilal Teron.
After serving as salesman in the shop of Lt D B Thaosen for about 5 years, I opened a separate shop at Langthing and contact works under Bengal Paper Mills.
I got married in 1949 with Smt Kananbala Porbosa (Bathari ) Afther staying for 10years at Langthing I purchased the shop of Lt. Nityalal Barman of Dauthuhaja and shifted there in 1953.
At that times there were two political parties in N C Hills led by Lt J B Hagjer and the union party led by lt D Hojai.
I was so impressed by the principle of lt J b Hagjer that I got enrolled as an active Congress Member in 1954, Lt J B Hagjer sent me to Semkhor village in 1955 to study the problem of the semsas. I visited the site of Samkhor ( salt well ) and saw the Dimasa Book (Semsas called Laisimagra) and the Gun presented by the Dimasa king.
In 12958 , the Naga hostile came to Maibang and looted it. After receiving the news that some had gone through Sobojai village about 5 km away from Dauthuhaja, I visited the village along with Sri Rajendra Ch Langthasa.
I shifted my resisdence in 1960 from Dauthuhaja to Miabang considering education of my children. In 1961,  I was elected as a member of District council from Hajadisa constituency by defeating Sri Longon Chand Dibragede. In 1964 I was nominated as M D C for a few  years.
Once I was the president? Secretary of the Maibang Bazar. V D P and the chairmanDiyung Valley Dev Block and Co-op societies Maibang, But after the death of Lt. Jaybhadra Hagjer, I was so shocked that I resigned from all the above posts and even give up drinks for good from 1973.
As it was felt necessary to reform Dimasa social customs, Dimasa Dara Dishani Dal was formed in 1974 with its H.Q. at Maibang. Sri Girish Raijiyung was the first president and I myself was the General secretary of the said Dal, After forming the Dal many outcasted Dimasa were again purified and brought under Dimasa society. At present I am an active member of Visha Hindu Parishad, Haflong aand Kalyan Ashram, Maibang. I am attending various meeting/ programme of the said organization and also helping the execution of developmental works.
I do hope , I shal be able to serve the good cause of  huminity in future . Now I am 67 years old
